With reference to Mr. Southor's reserved. despatch of the 22nd April, 1930, on the subject of the Vehicular Ferry, I have the honour to forward a copy of a resolution which was passed by the Legislative Council on the 1st December, 1932, authorizing the expenditure on this account duri ng the current year of a further sum of $290,000.

2. The estimate of $1,300,000 quoted in the despatch under reference as the cost of construction of the ferry piers was raised to $1,500,000 in 1931 on account of the fall in exchange and appears at that figure in Appendix VIIB of the Estimates for 1932. It has proved necessary to raise the estimate still further to $1,679,000 for reasons which are set out in the speech of the Treasurer proposing the resolution a copy of which is enclosed from the Hansard report of 1st December, 1932. Work proceeded more slowly than was

expected in 1931 and more quickly in 1932 with the result that it has been necessary to increase the
